The Poster!

This poster is entitled ‘Clear Mind, Clear Skies’ with the objective to raise the awareness of air pollution in our world. The earth now is dying, and its our duty to nurture it and prevent the earth from dying especially in the pollution area. This poster shows that the factory is emitting smoke and gasses out from the chimney that causes the earth to suffocate and dirty the air. One of the main gas in the factory that is emitted out is Carbon Monoxide (CO). I put a tagline or slogan that says “Carbon Monoxide is the silent killer”. This is to aware the the people of the danger of the carbon monoxide that is lingering in the air cause of the air pollution. As I said previously, most factory chimneys does not have any filter to filter out the gasses that are excreted out from the chimney. In this poster, I chose the vector art as my theme, since I fell in love with the vector art that is very colourful and attractive. I did use the pen tool and other tools to make the shape of the smoke with the cartoonish effect. I put a paper texture as a background to make the objects or symbols stands out from the background. I also chose bright fuschia colour to attract the attention of the people, since human love colours a lot. The birds represents the freedom that they will get once the skies are clear from any type of dangerous gasses or pollution. Basically my design is very simple, and not so complicated. I also applied some typography in the poster, example the way I arrange the title and slogan. I also included the slogan “Stop It Now” which means to stop the gas or pollutants from polluting the air.

Steps on Assignment 3

First : I drew out the shape of the factory from my sketch by using the pen tool.



Second : Then i used the Round Corner tool under the Effect tab. Effect > Stylize > Round C


Third : I typed out my title or slogan into my poster by using the type tool. Then I adjusted the kerning of the words. So, each letter will be closer and compact.



Fourth : Then I adjusted the words and made it slanted to achieve my poster layout.


Fifth : I drew the smoke by using the pentool.


Sixth : Then I experimented the effect tools and played around with them, until i found out the warp options, and played around with the settings to achieve the smoke shape effect.


Seventh : I did the same thing like the previous step for my other "smoke".



Eighth : After that, i placed a crumpled paper texture and rearranged the layer so the crumpled paper will become the background of the poster.



Nineth : I put the tagline or slogan by using the type tool and highlighted the word silent killer later on with the bright fuschia colour. This is to make the word stands out and make it more noticeable. I also arranged the alphabets by using the kerning settings.



Tenth : I put some shapes to make the factory a bit more detailed by using the shape tool rectangle tool and type tool to make the cross shape.


Eleventh : I did the same thing for the other 2 chimneys.


Twelfth : I inserted my logo from assignment 1, as its one of the criteria in the marking scheme. I placed it at the bottom right corner since its more suitable to put there, and i resized it.



Thirteenth : I used the glow tool from the Effect tab. Effect > Stylize > Outer Glow. This is to make the logo more stand out, rather than being flat.



Fourteenth : I used the symbol sprayer tool and i used the Bird symbol and "sprayed" around the title, so it won't look so dull.



Fifteenth : After that, I used the pentool and made somesort like a border outside my tagline. So that my tag line has a base.




Sixteenth : With the previous border that I made by using the pentool, I used the Roughen effect in the Effect tab. Effect > Distort & Transform > Roughen.

Project Objectives :

The main objective is to raise the awareness of air pollution in our world. The world is or earth is suffocating because of this air pollution that made the world an ugly place. Therefore, its our job to nurture the earth and prevent the earth from dying! We shall stop this pollution once and for all

Approach:

* My topic is Air Pollution and for my assignment 3 my title is Clear Mind, Clear Skies. So planning to draw a factory with chimneys that excrete out the smoke.

* I will either trace back my old factory, or maybe make a new one by using the pentool.

* I will also use the paper texture to enhance or make my poster more beautiful..

* I use type tool to create my title and i will arrange it by using the typography technique.

* I will also us effect tools such as distort, transform and stylize.

Assignment 3 - Ideas and References and Links

For this time, i don't have any sketch for this assignment. I got an idea from one of the poster i saw in the internet and i will most probably do something like that.
My poster should have a similliar concept like the posters above. Right now, me myself is pretty hectic with my other assignments. Well for my research, i found out this air pollution is baddly happenin in our world. The gas that is excreted out from the cars and factories are Carbon Monoxide (CO). I found out a cool slogan for my poster regarding Carbon Monoxide, which is " Carbon monoxide is the "silent killer" ". I'm gonna slip in that message inside my poster for a deeper impact of realization to the people out there. The slogan that i will put inside the poster is "Clear Skies, Clear Mind" So, i'll try my best to make a poster that will grab everyone's attention. The typography technique also will be included inside this poster. I'll place the slogan and the message slanted like the above poster to achieve the typography technique. For now, I'm quite unsure with the colours since I suck in colours and shadows :<

Hmmm, for the tools, i'm planning to use the same tool like used the previous assignments suchn as selection tool, direction selection tool, pen tool, type tool, line segment tool, rectangle tool, , zoom tool, and the live paint bucket. The new tool that I would probably used should be the Live trace tool, since i just found out in last week's class. It's a pretty hand tool i must say. And for this assignment i would most likely use the 'Brush Tool', to enhance my design for this poster and it will look more nice. I will explain more on my design once i finish my work. Toodles :)

Illustration - Steps 1,2

step 1 : fill in the box diagonally with brown colour by using the irritating pen tool.

step 2 : i drew the "chimney" by using the pen tool. Me bad at pen tool :(


step 3 : I cloned the "chimney" and added some "smoke" on top of it and drew some lines in the smoke so it will look more cartoon ish
step 4 : i used the rectangular tool and did A LOT OF BOXESSSSSSSSSSS. liek a lot(basically i just clone em :D) Btw, those boxes represents something like the window factories.


step 5 : i added the paper texture and decrease down the opacity so it looked like it will blend it together.

last step : i used the type tool and typed "air pollution". Well basically thats it. BYE. *rolls*

Illustration, Sketches, Tools Used, Design, Idea.

Clearly my illustration doesn't have anything to do with my sketches. Well, I changed my mind when i wanted to do the illustration. I saw an image inside the assignments.pdf and took that as my reference.
That's my reference/idea.

In this artwork, I pretty much used the same tool such as selection tool, direction selection tool, pen tool, type tool, line segment tool, rectangle tool, , zoom tool, and the live paint bucket. The new tool that i used is arc tool where i did an arc for the factory. I also added a paper texture and decrease the opacity so it will blend in with my illustration to give that pollution/grungy effect.
